As a PGA member, Mark Whetzel has been growing the game of golf for more than 20 years. Mark’s enthusiasm for the game has led him to become one of the top golf instructors in Utah. Mark has served in several capacities at Thanksgiving Point Golf Course since the course inception in spring of 1997. Mark started as the Director of Tournaments, Head Golf Professional, and since 1999, has served as the Director of Golf for Thanksgiving Point Golf Club, a PGA recognized golf facility. Under Mark’s direction the club has hosted such prestigious events as Johnny Miller’s annual Champions Challenge, the Utah State Amateur Championship, and the Western PGA Club Professional Championship. Mark has won the PGA Merchandising of the year award from the Utah Section twice and nominated nationally once. Mark has spent the past four years developing the Golf Course at the new Sand Hollow Resort in St. George Utah, were his company Vanguard Golf Management will long term manage the facility.
Mark is also the co-host with Rod Zundel of KSL TV’s “Uinta Golf’s Tip of the Week” segment which airs weekly on Sunday nights throughout the golf season. Mark has a passion for teaching and has several up and coming players that he has coached or is currently coaching. Such as, Carl Jensen, Giper and Tony Finau, and nationally ranked Junior Player McCoy Willey.
In addition to his teaching skills, Mark and his partners have developed Vanguard Golf Management Group, a golf course operations company focusing on facility management, marketing, public relations, guest services, tournament operations, merchandising, and golf course food & beverage operations.
